DAY 1: Arrival day! As guests arrive they can get checked into their hotel room and meet in the lobby for a “Welcome Reception!” 1800: Dinner with your group held at a southern style buffet or the local watering hole for an evening of great food and telling stories of yesterday! 2000: Enjoy an evening swim at the hotel, or gather in the hotel conference room or lobby for a card game while you catch up with old friends! DAY 2: 0800: After breakfast, those who have base access can take a self-guided driving tour of the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base. Stop by the Stimson Gate Pass & ID office for a map and information. 0900: After a base tour, journey to the Franklin Gate to view The Bancroft Sail Memorial Exhibit! It is free, open to the public and makes a great photo! 1000: Located in historic downtown St. Marys, GA, the Submarine Museum is a great place to learn about the "Silent Service". A wide variety of Submarine artifacts, memorabilia and information are available for viewing, and you can check out the beautiful St. Marys waterfront thru a real periscope. 1130: Chow time! Enjoy lunch while downtown St. Marys at any of the restaurants on the main street. 1300: Walk off lunch with a stroll around downtown St. Marys. Visit The Cumberland Island Museum/War of 1812 Exhibit, Oak Grove Cemetery, Orange Hall House Museum and the First Presbyterian Church. All attractions are in walking distance of each other and the group can split up if they choose, and visit the attractions of their choice! 1500: After exploring St. Marys, head back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner. 1700: Report to the hotel lobby and load up the bus for a special evening dinner overlooking beautiful marsh or the St. Marys River. Optional Evening Entertainment: 1900: Every Friday and Saturday nights, a true southern treat, the Woodbine Opry; where you will hear the sounds of southern gospel, bluegrass and classic country music! DAY 3: 0900: Grab your camera and head to Folkston, GA to see the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, where the group can watch a short orientation film, engage in interactive activities, followed by a 90 minute guided Boat Tour of this Natural Wildlife Refuge. 1200: Either picnic or enjoy lunch at the Okefenokee’s own, “Camp Cornelia Café”. 1300: On your way back to Kingsland, stop by the Folkston Funnel, a train watchers platform to view the double track which serves as the main artery for railroad traffic into and out of Florida. Watch the train’s blaze by as you listen to the scanner for live radio traffic between trains. Then visit the old Train Depot, a museum of artifacts from days gone by. 1400: Head back to Kingsland and stop by the Kingsland Welcome Center to say good-bye and enjoy a treat before hitting the road back home! |
