DAY 1: 9:00am: Travel 8 miles east to St. Marys, GA; the second oldest continuously inhabited city next to St. Augustine, FL. Explore St. Marys history with a visit to The Cumberland Island Museum/War of 1812 Exhibit, Oak Grove Cemetery, Orange Hall House Museum and the St. Mary’s Submarine Museum. All are in walking distance of each other and the group can split up and visit the attraction of their choice or enjoy shopping at the many quaint shops along the waterfront. 11:30am: Lunch is available at any of the local St. Marys restaurants, many are located downtown on the waterfront; or enjoy a picnic lunch at the Howard Gilman Park overlooking the St. Marys River. 1:00pm: Meet at the waterfront pavilion and jump aboard the Cumberland Sound Ferry for a 2 hour on-the-water, narrated tour of Cumberland Island, GA. Famous for its wild horses, pristine white sand beaches, and the famous Carnegie estates such as ‘Plum Orchard’ and ‘Dungeness’. 3:30pm: Depart the Cumberland Sound Ferry and head back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner. 6:00pm: Dine together with your group at a true Southern buffet or head to one of the many restaurants for a sunset dinner overlooking the ever changing marsh or the beautiful St. Marys River. DAY 2: 9:00am: Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then head 27 miles west of Kingsland to Folkston, GA. 10:00am: Just minutes into Folkston, GA is the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge where the group can watch a short orientation film, engage in interactive activities, followed by a 90 minute guided Boat Tour of this Natural Wildlife Refuge. 12:30pm: Either picnic or enjoy lunch at the Okefenokee’s own, “Camp Cornelia Café”. 1:30pm: On your way back to Kingsland, stop by the Folkston Funnel, a train watchers platform to view the double track which serves as the main artery for railroad traffic into and out of Florida. Watch the train’s blaze by as you listen to the scanner for live radio traffic between trains. Then visit the old Train Depot, a museum of artifacts from days gone by. Optional Evening Entertainment: 7:00pm: Every Friday and Saturday nights, a true southern treat, the Woodbine Opry; where you will hear the sounds of bluegrass and classic country music! Departing Day: End the journey by stopping at the Kingsland Welcome Center for a departing reception! We will roll out the red carpet for you and your guests and serve up our local favorite, Peach Tea! 4:00pm: Head back to the hotel and wind down the evening with a pizza party & a movie for the last night at the hotel! |
